EINZ (ECMO in NZ) forms a crucial component of an ongoing initiative to ensure equitable access to top-tier cardiac and respiratory ICU care, encompassing Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Launched in 2022, this project stemmed from the recognition of challenges posed by New Zealand's distinct geographical and demographic features, prompting the development of a national VA ECMO Service Model.
The ECMO course is designed to not only provide high-quality medical education but also create networking opportunities. With an international faculty comprising world-renowned experts, including contributions from Mayo Clinic, Duke University, Guys and St Thomas' Hospital in London and Alfred Health in Melbourne, the curriculum offers a perfect blend of theoretical knowledge and high fidelity simulation with hands-on practical training. This will equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide ECMO in various clinical settings, contributing to the improvement of patient outcomes.
The hands-on training includes state-of-the-art Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and life-cannulation exercises, offering participants a chance to practice and perfect their skills in a controlled and immersive environment.
In its third year, what began as a national transformation in New Zealand has evolved into an international event. Rooted in the fundamental principle of equitable healthcare provision, this initiative has expanded its scope while remaining committed to its core ethos.
The transition from ECMO in New Zealand to EINZ symbolizes unity and the pursuit of excellence. Recognizing the diverse needs of populations worldwide, healthcare systems must be accessible, efficient, and tailored to meet the specific requirements of individuals.
In the context of New Zealand's breathtaking landscape, the establishment of regional ECMO providers marks a significant stride toward decentralizing specialized healthcare services. By bringing these services closer to communities, accessibility is vastly improved, ensuring that a wider population can benefit from timely and effective medical care.
By participating in this course, healthcare professionals will not only enhance their clinical skills but also contribute to a larger effort to improve the healthcare landscape. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from an international faculty, engage in stimulating discussions, and share experiences and best practices with peers from various regions.
Together, let us work towards a future where everyone has access to high-quality, equitable healthcare. Be a part of this transformative journey.
